Crafted in gold, the chain tests as approximately 8-carat gold, likely of European origin, and has been gilded with high-carat gold, enhancing its yellow gold hue. The removable antique bolt ring clasp is a later addition, testing as 9-carat gold, it presents a warmer gold colour, reflecting the natural gold of the piece prior to gilding.  
 
Dating back to the 19th century, this collar necklace embodies the intricate craftsmanship and elegance of the period.  Measuring a fabulous 18.25 inches, it offers versatility in styling.  The chain can be worn with either side facing up, offering two distinct looks. One side showcases the star details, while the other side features a polished surface.  There is wonderful movement in the links, as the curved links between the puffy star links move freely, allowing for an incredibly comfortable wear.
 
In very good antique condition, the links show minimal signs of wear, albeit some of the puffy star links are a little misshapen due to the age of the piece.  There is a filed section on the bolt ring likely as a result of a previous acid test before the part came to us.  This does not detract from its beauty or compromise its security in any way.
