This captivating Georgian mourning ring, dating to 1824, is crafted in approximately 14-carat gold, showcasing a rich, soft yellow hue with natural patina and intricate chased detailing on the face and shoulders. The bifurcated shoulders elegantly frame the central locket compartment, which contains a piece of pink silk—possibly once housing hairwork or another keepsake. The inscription inside the band reads: "In Memory Of George & Ann Bolam, 1824," paying homage to loved ones from a bygone era.

Though unmarked, the ring has been professionally tested on a laser XRF machine as approximately 14-carat gold. Since 14-carat gold was not a recognised standard at the time, we believe this piece may have originally been classified as 12-carat gold but crafted with a higher gold content than usual, resulting in the current reading of 14-carat.

Weighing 4.37 grams, the ring is in excellent antique condition, with only minor patinated solder marks inside the band, indicative of its original craftsmanship. The chased details remain remarkably well-preserved. At 12mm wide at the face, this substantial piece makes a sentimental and elegant addition to any jewellery collection.
